Geneva Bible Notes: Genesis 16

Genesis 16:1 (!) Sarai being barren, giueth Hagar to Abram.

Genesis 16:1 (a) It semeth that she had respect to Gods promes, which colde not be accomplished without issue.

Genesis 16:2 (b) She faileth in binding Gods power to the common ordre of nature, as thogh God colde not giue her children in her olde age.

Genesis 16:2 (/) Ebr. be buylded by her.

Genesis 16:4 (c) This punishement declareth what thei gaine that attempt any thing against the worde of God.

Genesis 16:4 (!) Which conceiueth & despiseth her dame:

Genesis 16:5 (/) Ebr. mine injurie is vpon thee.

Genesis 16:6 (!) And being il handeled fleeth.

Genesis 16:6 (/) Or, power.

Genesis 16:7 (!) The Angel comforteth her.

Genesis 16:7 (d) Which was Christ, as appeareth verse {10. & chap. 18,13}.

Genesis 16:9 (e) God rejecteth none estate of people in their miseries, but sendeth them comforte.

Genesis 16:11 (!) The name and maners of her sonne.

Genesis 16:12 (/) Or, fierce and cruel, or, as a wilde asse.

Genesis 16:12 (f) That is, the Ishmaelites shalbe a peculiar people by them selues, and not a portion of an other people.

Genesis 16:13 (g) She rebuketh her owne dullnes and acknowledgeth Gods graces, who was present with her euery where.

Genesis 16:13 (!) She calleth vpon the Lord whome she findeth true.

Genesis 16:14 (/) Or, the well of the liuing and seing me.
