Geneva Bible Notes: Genesis 49

Genesis 49:1 (!) Jaakob blesseth all his sonnes by name, and sheweth them what is to come.

Genesis 49:1 (a) When God shal bring you out of Egypt.

Genesis 49:3 (b) Begotten in my youthe.

Genesis 49:3 (c) If thou hadest not lost thy birthright by thine offence.

Genesis 49:5 (/) Or, their swordes were instruments of violence.

Genesis 49:6 (e) The Shechemites, { chap. 34,26}.

Genesis 49:6 (d) Or, tongue, meaning that he nether consented to them in worde nor thoght.

Genesis 49:7 (f) For Leui had no parte, and Simeon was vnder Judah, {Josh. 19:1}, til God gaue them the place of the Amalekites. {1 Chro. 4:43}.

Genesis 49:8 (g) As was verified in Dauid and Christ.

Genesis 49:9 (h) His enemies shal so feare him.

Genesis 49:10 (/) Or, Kingdome.

Genesis 49:10 (i) Which is Christ the Messias, the giuer of all prosperitie: who shal call the Gentiles to salvation.

Genesis 49:11 (k) A countrey moste abundant with vines and pastures is promised him.

Genesis 49:14 (l) His force shalbe great, but he shal want courage to resist his enemies.

Genesis 49:14 (/) Ebr. an asse of great bones.

Genesis 49:16 (m) shal haue the honour of a tribe.

Genesis 49:17 (n) That is, full of subteltie.

Genesis 49:20 (p) He shal abound in corne & pleasant frutes.

Genesis 49:21 (q) Ouercoming more by faire wordes then by force.

Genesis 49:22 (/) Ebr. daughters.

Genesis 49:22 (/) Ebr. a sonne of increase.

Genesis 49:23 (r) As his brethren, Potiphar, and others.

Genesis 49:24 (s) That is, God.

Genesis 49:26 (t) In as muche as he was more nere to the accomplishment of the promes, and it had bene more often confirmeed.

Genesis 49:26 (u) Either in dignitie, or when he was solde from his brethren.

Genesis 49:29 (!) He wil be buryed with his fathers.

Genesis 49:33 (x) Whereby is signified how quickly he dyed.

Genesis 49:33 (!) He dyeth.
